The Autumn Club

It all began in January 1994 when a decision was taken to organise a club on Monday afternoons for retired members.    What should it be called?    Various suggestions were made and Mrs Dorothy Caldwell happened to mention that ‘We are in the autumn of our life’ – so there it was  - ‘The Autumn Club’!

By 1996 there were 42 registered members of The Autumn Club, with around 30 attending each meeting.   Now we have over 80 registered members with a very good attendance each meeting.    Members now come from Ardrossan, Saltcoats, Stevenston, Kilwinning and West Kilbride and some of the founder members are still actively working for the Club .

In 1994 the Club applied to the local Council for a grant which purchased 50 cups and saucers, 1 tea urn, 2 teapots and a dozen teaspoons!    In 2009 we were given a Council grant to purchase a digital projector – things have moved on somewhat!  We have also purchased  with our own funds, a laptop computer and speakers.

The Autumn Club, which is a non-denominational, non-political, leisure and companionable centre for retired and unemployed men and women in the area, meets from September until May each year, on alternate Mondays, and the members have enjoyed, over the years, the contribution of speakers on various subjects.

Christmas and Easter Lunches, are also enjoyed, as are pantomime visits and Summer outings, courtesy of our Social Conveners.
